Peter has been involved in the insurance industry since 1974, and founded Mitchell Sandham with partner J. Norman Sandham in July 1995. Building on his strong personal lines and commercial business, Peter's experience in boating led him to develop a special interest in Marine Insurance.

Aaron Nantais +

Chief Executive Officer

With a solid 18-year insurance career track record, Aaron joins the Mitchell Sandham team as an experienced insurance executive having held senior positions of executive management and sales leadership, in addition to his expansive background in commercial underwriting and risk management.

As Chief Executive Officer, Aaron will be playing a leading role in the development and execution of corporate strategy, with emphasis on sales, marketing and recruiting top talent. Aaron will work closely with the President and Chief Operating Officer to plan and guide the long-term vision of the company. We are excited to have Aaron join our team and wish him great success in the future.

Ryan Mitchell, CAIB, CPIB +

Chief Operating Officer

Ryan is a registered insurance broker who holds the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) and Canadian Professional Insurance Broker (CPIB) designations. Ryan specializes in commercial insurance along with personal lines insurance products. His 10 years experience within the insurance industry working as an insurance broker ranges from an account executive position to his current role as Chief Operating Officer and Managing Partner at Mitchell Sandham. He has completed the Making Partner Program at Queen’s University as well as the Executive Leadership Program through ING Insurance Company. Ryan holds his Bachelor of Arts with a Business Administration Option from Wilfrid Laurier University. Runner-up to the IBAO Young Broker of the Year Award in 2008 Ryan has continued to strengthen his knowledge of commercial insurance while maintaining strong relationships with his clients.

Gregory D. Shields, FRM +

Partner

Greg has dedicated his career to being a trusted advisor to his clients for strategic decisions regarding risk management, corporate governance, and insurance. Those clients include financial services firms, publicly traded companies, worldwide non-governmental organizations, start-up and growing entities and not-for-profit organizations. Insurance product expertise includes executive liability, professional liability, fiduciary liability and crime. His 20 years’ experience includes financial analysis, underwriting, management and executive positions with national and international financial institutions, and national practice responsibilities with a large insurance brokerage. Greg holds his Bachelor of Commerce, the Fellowship in Risk Management (FRM) and is a director with two not-for-profit organizations serving people with communication disorders. He is a competitive barbershop quartet singer and an extremely average golfer. Greg lives in Etobicoke with wife and two sons.

Gail Knecht +

Associate Broker

Gail began her insurance career in underwriting and management at one of Canada’s leading insurance Companies. She has over 25 years of experience specializing in Commercial Insurance at both the Insurance Company and Brokerage levels. In addition to this, Gail became a Commercial Territory Director, helping others achieve success. Having her Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and an Associate of the Insurance Institute of Canada (AIIC) insurance designations, Gail has the experience and ability to offer sound and unassailable advice. She is also diversified in the Life and Group Benefits area, so if there are risks to be made aware of, and solutions to reduce or avert risk, Gail is there to help and counsel. Insurance needs evolve as life evolves, and thus requires expertise, depth and knowledge. Perhaps in areas you have not even considered, or even know of. This is where the breadth and depth of knowledge from Gail comes in.

Gail is married to husband, Mike, and they reside in North York,ON. Mike is a Real Estate Professional with Coldwell Banker. Their son, Marcus, was drafted in 2010 in the 3rd round by the Toronto Blue Jays in and is now in their Minor League system. Their daughter Michele is an honor student at PEAC School for Athletes and plays AA Hockey for the Willowdale Redwings.

After starting in the insurance business in 1976, Bob founded and successfully operated Robert W. Crichton Insurance Brokers Ltd. for 18 years. In 1996 he merged his business with Mitchell Sandham. Bob has a 3 year business degree from Mohawk College and is licensed for property, casualty, life and disability insurance products.

Since 1981 Gord has enjoyed roles in underwriting, claims, loss prevention, reinsurance placement, structured settlements, public company startup, call centre development, buy/sell agreements, internet marketing, systems, private business ownership and brokerage. This broad frame of reference, the solid platform provided by Mitchell Sandham and the experience gained from the long time service to his commercial customers is the value he brings in assisting his clients with their insurance and business issues. Gord concentrates in the real estate, manufacturing and technology sectors. Gord has served on the University Council at Queen’s University in Kingston, as a community basketball coach and as a nonprofit board member.
